The week in Bloomfield crime from Officer Ralph Marotti, Bloomfield Police Department:

Theft

02/27/2017- Abase Ibiang age 36 of Newark NJ was arrested at 12:59pm and charged with Shoplifting. The incident occurred at the “Buck N Up” Store located at 12 Arlington Avenue. Mr. Ibiang placed store merchandise valued at $79.00 dollars inside a backpack and exited the store without paying. Responding officers located Mr. Ibiang at the Grove Street train platform. The proceeds were recovered and returned to the store. Mr. Ibiang was issued a summons and released with a pending court date.

02/27/2017- Stefan Kosinski age 35 of Jersey City was arrested at 3:13pm and charged with Shoplifting. Mr. Kosinski was observed placing a ratchet tool valued at $79.00 dollars inside his pants. He was released on a summons with a pending court date.

02/27/2017- Two female juveniles residing in Newark were taken into custody after attempting to shoplift beauty products valued at $241.00 dollars. The incident occurred at the Stop & Shop Store located at 8 Franklin Street. The juveniles ages 16 and 14 were turned over to the Youth Aid Bureau.

02/27/2017- A wristlet Coach Wallet and sunglasses were reported stolen from a 2013 Honda Accord. The vehicle was parked overnight on Willow Street.

02/28/2017- Brian Yervanian age 18 of North Arlington was arrested at 2:00pm at the Stop & Shop Store located at 8 Franklin Street. Loss Prevention observed Mr. Yervanian conceal store merchandise valued at $130.00 dollars inside a black bag. Police arrived and placed Mr. Yervanian in custody charging him with Theft. He was issued a summons and released.

02/28/2017-A second shoplifting occurred at the same location (Stop & Shop) at 5:00pm with 2 females taking store items off the shelves and concealing them in a blue bag. Loss Prevention detained both females until the arrival of Police. Ashley Hundley age 21 of Irvington and Tasia Teele age 20 of Bloomfield were both charged with Shoplifting. Ms. Hundley was additionally charged with Possession of CDS after police discovered marijuana in her possession.

02/28/2017-Orlando Christmas age 53 of Newark a known habitual shoplifter was arrested at 9:57pm after shoplifting merchandise at the CVS Store located at 331 Broad Street. Mr. Orlando Christmas was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Christmas was additionally charged with committing a theft on 02/27/2017 at the same location.

03/02/2017- Richard Bryant age 51 of Newark was arrested at 3:28pm and charged with shoplifting. Stop & Shop loss prevention observed Mr. Bryant conceal 5 razors inside his bag. The merchandise valued at $86.95 was recovered and returned to the store. Mr. Bryant was held on an active Bloomfield warrant.

03/04/2017- Jamillah Wright age 31 of Bloomfield was arrested at 4:45pm and charged with Theft. Ms. Wright was observed taking hair products and concealing the items in her purse. Stop & Shop store security detained Ms. Wright until the arrival of police. She was issued a summons and released.

Burglary

03/01/2017- Police were dispatched to Columbus Street on a report of an attempted burglary into a garage. Witnesses observed two males attempting to gain entry into the garage. The suspects were unsuccessful and fled the area on foot. Detectives actively investigating incident.

03/02/2017- Police are investigating a reported diversionary Burglary occurring on Mohr Avenue at approximately 1:30pm. The homeowner stated a female suspect rang the side doorbell informing her of a water problem on the street. The suspect described as a Hispanic female in her 40’s stated she needed to check the pipes in the basement. The homeowner a 94 year old female escorted the suspect to the basement. The suspect handed the victim a device after turning the water on, telling her to watch for the light to change. After 30 minutes the suspect left the residence. Victim later discovered the bedrooms were rummaged through with coins and cash missing. Police are actively investigating incident.

Suspicious Incident

02/28/2017- Police were dispatched to Watsessing Park on a report of a possible fight. Bloomfield Police along with The Essex County Sheriff Department checked the area having negative results for any fights.

02/28/2017- Police were dispatched to Bloomfield College to assist campus security in removing an unwanted party from the lobby. The unwanted party left prior to police arrival. Campus security believes the person entered using a student’s ID card. Campus security was advised to contact police if the person returned.

Motor vehicle Theft

03/02/2017- The registered owner of a 2008 Jeep Compass reported his vehicle was stolen from Austin Place. The owner parked his vehicle at 6:00pm and discovered it missing at 12:51am.

Warrant Arrest

03/01/2017- Papio Matos age 21 of Newark was arrested at 9:00am for an active warrant issued by Newark. PO Robert Mazariegos initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a silver Volkswagen with a cracked windshield. The registered owner/driver Mr. Mazariegos was additionally issued a summons for suspended driver license and the cracked windshield. He was ROR with a new court date issued by Newark PD.

03/02/2017-John Scott age 26 of Newark was arrested at 1:23am after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an active warrant. Officers observed a silver Honda traveling east on Bloomfield Avenue, swerving over the center line. The driver John Scott was also found to have a suspended driver license. Mr. Scott was released after posting the bail for the Bloomfield warrant. He was issued the appropriate motor vehicle summons.

CDS

03/02/2017- Pierre Sanon age 41 of East Orange NJ was arrested at 10:23pm and charged with Possession of CDS. Officers Eric Capito and Reggy Joseph initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle with a headlight out. During the stop officers detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle’s interior. Further investigation led to the discovery of a plastic container containing 3 bags of suspected marijuana. Mr. Sanon was charged with Possession of CDS and issued a motor vehicle summons for maintenance of lamps.

DUI

03/04/2017- Nicholas Santos age 24 of Kearny was arrested at 2:04am and charged with DUI. Officers Ana Ruiz and Leonard Antinozzi observed a green Mazda swerving and unable to maintain a traffic lane. During a motor vehicle stop officers detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. The driver Mr. Santos was placed under arrest after several field sobriety tests were conducted, which led officers to believe he was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Mr. Santos also had an active warrant issued by Kearny.

Prostitution

03/03/2017- Young Kim age 50 of Flushing NY was arrested at 12:40pm and charged with Prostitution and Promoting Prostitution. Bloomfield Anti-Crime Unit conducted an undercover prostitution operation at Bloomfield Therapy located at 669 Bloomfield Avenue. The investigation led to the arrest of Young Kim who engaged in the illegal activity. Ms. Kim was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and charged accordingly. She was ROR with a pending court date.

Arrest:

03-09-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) Mr. Gared Flagler, 31yoa from Iselin, was arrested and charged with DWI.

03-12-2017 (Walnut Street) Mr. Akim Dolor, 26yoa from Belleville, was arrested on open warrants out of Bloomfield, East Orange, and Kearny totaling $2,040.

Burglary/Theft:

03-08-2017 (CVS, Valley Road) Shoplifting of baby formula and diapers. The suspect is described as a black male, 45-50 years of age, approximately 5’9″ in height, with a mustache, possibly wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, a black baseball hat, and grey colored sweat pants.

03-08-2017 (Diamond Cycle, Bloomfield Avenue) A male walked through the store, appearing to be shopping. He then got on a bicycle which was awaiting repair and rode it out of the store, through the rear exit. The suspect is described as a tall black male, approximately 25 years of age, with a thin build and long hair, wearing sunglasses on his head, a black hooded sweatshirt with white writing on the back that said “Ain’t No Talk”, blue jeans with white stitching along the rear pockets, gray sneakers and finger-less gloves. The male also possessed a black backpack. The stolen bicycle is described as a 2014 Cannondale Scalpel black/yellow valued at $3,750.

03-08-2017 (CVS, Valley Road) Shoplifting of numerous clothing items. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6’ in height, wearing a navy blue “Polo” brand jacket with light blue accents, a dark colored baseball cap and a light grey hooded sweatshirt.

03-10-2017 (Cloverhill place) Burglary to a residence. Jewelry and an iPad were taken in this incident.

03-12-2017 (Starbucks, S. Park Street) Theft of a wallet which had been left unattended inside the store.

Miscellaneous:

03-08-2017 (Pine Street) Vandalism to two parked vehicles. Both vehicles were covered in paint and had their windows smashed.

Theft

03/06/2017- Tawanna Edwards age 47 of Newark was arrested at 6:36pm and charged with Shoplifting at the Marshalls Store. Police were alerted to a female shoplifter who fled the store on foot with the stolen merchandise. The suspect was located a short distance from the store and transported to police headquarters. Ms. Edwards was issued a summons for shoplifting and held on 3 Active Bloomfield Warrants.

03/07/2017-Alexander Walker age 38 of Newark was arrested and charged with a shoplifting offense occurring at 600 Bloomfield Avenue Family Dollar Store. Mr. Walker stole store merchandise valued at $30.00 dollars. Mr. Walker was held on several active warrants issued by the Township of Bloomfield.

03/08/2017-Dwayne Clemons age 49 of Newark was arrested at 10:00am and charged with shoplifting at the Family Dollar Store. Mr. Clemons concealed 30 cans of Monster energy drinks inside his duffle bag. He was issued a summons and ROR.

03/08/2017- Ali Simmons age 48 of Irvington NJ was arrested after attempting to steal floor panels from the Home Depot Store located at 60 Orange Street. Police were dispatched at 12:49pm after store security observed the theft. Mr. Simmons was wanted by the NJ State Parole Board and later transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

03/09/2017-A purse was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Main Terrace. A witness observed 2 males at approximately 8:00am enter the vehicle and remove the purse. A check of the area was negative for the suspects.

03/10/2017- Belinda Makara age 41 of Newark was arrested at 2:02pm and charged with Theft. Police were dispatched to the CVS store located at 331 Broad Street on a shoplifter who exited the store and was walking on Broad Street. The officers located the suspect identified as Ms. Makara, who was in possession of the stolen merchandise. She was issued a summons and released with a pending court date.

03/10/2017-Jay Murphy age 27 of Newark was arrested at 5:17pm and charged with Shoplifting at the Home Depot Store. Loss Prevention Officer observed Mr. Murphy attempt to exit the store without paying for two nail guns. He was issued a summons and ROR.

03/11/2017- A bicycle was reported stolen from a garage on Columbus Street. The manufacture of the bicycle is SOLE and the model is Tiger. The bike is gray with orange rims and valued at $600.00 dollars. The bike was last seen a week prior to reporting the theft.

03/11/2017- Orlando Christmas age 53 of Newark NJ was arrested at 7:00pm after shoplifting at the Rite Aid Store located at 77 Bloomfield Avenue. Mr. Christmas, who has been arrested in the past for shoplifting several shoplifting incidents, attempted to steal Lubriderm and Motrin.
He was charged accordingly and transported to East Orange Police on an active warrant.

Burglary

03/08/2017- Police are actively investigating a Burglary that occurred at the Subway Deli located at 121 Bloomfield Avenue. A store employee reported the incident when he arrived at work in the morning discovering the interior had been ransacked. A safe containing money was also reported missing from the store.

03/08/2017- A homeowner on Chubb Street reported his residence was burglarized between the hours of 5:30pm and 7:25pm. The homeowner returned home after shopping and discovered the rooms upstairs had been ransacked. Jewelry and money are reported missing from the rooms. Police are actively investigating the incident.

03/09/2017-A shed located on MacArthur Avenue was burglarized between the hours of 6:00pm and 6:30pm. The homeowner observed the suspect described as a male, walking out of the driveway. Home security cameras captured the incident and was turned over to police for further investigation. A hand truck and bicycle are reported missing from the shed.

Warrant Arrest

03/08/2017- Samir Woodard age 26 of Newark was arrested at 11:03am for an active warrant issued by Newark. Mr. Woodard a suspended driver was observed operating a vehicle by PO Robert Estelle. A motor stop led to his arrest for the warrant. He was issued a summons for driving while suspended and turned over to Newark PD.

CDS

03/11/2017- John Reardon age 21 of Parsippany was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of suspected marijuana. Police observed a white Volkswagen drive through a red light at Bloomfield Avenue and Municipal Plaza. Officers detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A black vaporizer containing burnt marijuana was discovered inside the vehicle. Mr. Reardon was charged with Possession of CDS, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and issued 2 motor vehicle summons. He was released with a pending court date.

DUI

03/06/2017-Alfredo Odar age 31 of Belleville was arrested at 12:32am and charged with DUI. Police were dispatched to Watching Avenue and Broad Street on a report of a man sleeping in a black BMW, while stopped at a red light. PO Daniel Fried located the vehicle with a male driver later identified as Mr. Odar asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle. Further investigation led to his arrest for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.

03/06/2017- Dante Polito age 27 of Caldwell NJ was arrested at 1:36pm and charged with DUI. Police were dispatched to 675 Bloomfield Avenue on a reported motor vehicle accident. Officers arrived on scene and observed a male driver having what appeared to be a seizure. EMS unit arrived on scene and administered Narcan, at which time the driver regained consciousness. Police discovered a glassine envelope used to package heroin on the driver seat. Mr. Polito was transported to Mountainside Hospital for further evaluation. Police charged Mr. Polito with DUI, DUI within a 1,000ft of Bloomfield High School, Possession of CDS in a vehicle, reckless Driving and Failure to Maintain a Lane. Mr. Polito also had several active warrants. The reported accident involved Mr. Polito’s vehicle striking an unoccupied parked vehicle.

03/07/2017-Danny Pierce age 34 of Belleville was arrested at 2:16am and charged with DUI. Police observed Mr. Pierce’s vehicle traveling west on Montgomery Street at an excessive speed unable to maintain a lane. A second motorist informed police he was being followed by Mr. Pierce after leaving the Hitching Post in Paterson. While speaking to Mr. Pierce officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. After several Field Sobriety Tests it was determined that Mr. Pierce was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was transported to police headquarters and additionally issued summons for Suspended Driver, Reckless Driving and Maintaining a Lane.

 

 

Newark Police Arrest Montclair Man for CDS Possession and Distribution

crimeThe following report has been sent by the Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose:

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Richard S. Best, 33, of Montclair, for possession of two loaded handguns and CDS distribution today.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., plain clothes officers were canvassing a residential building at Brunswick and Thomas streets in response to complaints from concerned citizens about drugs being sold from a vacant apartment. Police arrested Best as he attempted to flee back into the apartment, but was immediately apprehended and arrested without further incident.

Officers found Best in possession of 1,250 glassine envelopes of suspected CDS heroin, 257 vials of suspected CDS cocaine, a clear plastic bag containing 6.7 grams of suspected CDS cocaine, a scale, boxes of empty glass vials, zip-lock bags containing multi-colored vial tops, a razor, a box of .45 caliber ammunition, a loaded .45 caliber handgun and a loaded .40 caliber handgun.

Best is charged with CDS Possession (heroin and cocaine), CDS Distribution, CDS Distribution within 1,000-ft. of a School, CDS Distribution within 500-ft. of a Public Park, Possession of CDS Paraphernalia, Criminal Trespass, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Arrest:

03-14-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) Mr. Charles Berry, 46yoa from Montclair, was arrested for being disorderly and refusing to comply with direction from officers.

03-20-2017 (Oak Street) Mr. Lance Smith, 22yoa from Montclair was arrested and charged with possession of CDS.

Burglary/Theft:

03-17-2017 (The Fairway) Theft from an unlocked motor vehicle. A wallet and iPhone were taken in this incident.

03-18-2017 (Graham Terrace) Burglary to an unlocked residence. Cash was taken in this incident.

03-18-2017 (Sutherland Road) Burglary to a residence. Jewelry and a gift card were taken. There was no sign of forced entry.

03-20-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) Theft of an unattended purse containing cash and credit cards.

Miscellaneous:

03-18-2017 (Gates Avenue) A silver BMW was vandalized. The trunk of this vehicle was keyed and a quarter panel dented.

Theft

03/14/2017- Raveena Naidoo age 20 of Belleville was arrested at 5:15pm and charged with Shoplifting. The incident occurred at the Super Fresh Store located at 19 Belleville Avenue. Ms. Naidoo concealed 3 bottles of skin lotion and attempted to return the items for a cash refund. She was issued a summons with a pending court date.

03/15/2017- William Vega age 49 of Newark was arrested at 9:14am and charged with Shoplifting at the Stop & Shop Store. Loss Prevention provided police with a description of the suspect who fled the store on foot. Police located the suspect later identified as Mr. Vega, walking on Grove Street. Mr. Vega was also found to be in possession of a glassine envelope containing suspected heroin. He was additionally charged with Possession of CDS.

03/17/2016-Orlando Christmas age 53 of Newark was arrested at 1:12pm and charged with Theft. The incident occurred at the Staples Store located at 135 Bloomfield Avenue. The suspect stole a heater and was last seen walking on Bloomfield Avenue. Police located the suspect on Grove Street sitting on a bench. The suspect identified as Mr. Christmas was in possession of the stolen merchandise along with a glass pipe used to inhale a CDS. He was charged accordingly and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

03/17/2017-A students IPad was reported stolen from the High School gym locker room. The IPad is valued at $700.00 dollars. The incident was reported to the High School Security.

03/19/2017-Jeffrey Workman age 49 of East Orange was arrested at 4:32pm and charged with Shoplifting. Police were dispatched to the Home Depot Store located at 60 Orange Street on a shoplifter in custody. Loss Prevention observed Mr. Workman rip open a package and place the items in his pocket. He was charged accordingly and ROR.

Motor Vehicle Theft

03/14/2017- Four vehicles were reported stolen from Lynn’s Nissan located at 318 Bloomfield Avenue. An employee reported the vehicles were running, while snow was being cleared in the dealership parking lot. A grey Lexus stolen out of Newark drove up to the dealership with (4) black males exiting the vehicle. The suspects then entered the dealership vehicle’s and drove off towards East Orange. The vehicles stolen were a 2011 BMW 3281, 2007 Lexus IS250, 2015 Toyota Corolla and a 2017 Nissan Sentra.

Suspicious Incident

03/15/2017- Police were dispatched to Hoover Avenue on a report of a suspicious vehicle. Police arrived and located a grey van with the occupants soliciting in the area without a permit. Police issued a Town summons and the parties were dispersed.

Burglary

03/17/2017- A homeowner from Renner Avenue reported someone entered her home, while they were out for the day. The upstairs bedrooms were discovered ransacked with jewelry missing. The suspect(s) gained entry into the home through a basement window. Police are actively investigating the incident.

Warrant Arrest

03/15/2017- Emmanuel Ojeda age 31 of Bloomfield was arrested at 9:00pm for (2) active warrants issued by Secaucus and Bloomfield. Police were dispatched to Bell Street on a report of suspicious activity. Police arrived on scene and discovered Mr. Ojeda accompanied by another male loading a vehicle onto a trailer. After further inquiry, it was learned that the vehicle was owned by the second male and being transported to a friend’s house. Mr. Ojeda who was assisting his friend was found to have the (2) active warrants. He was transported to police headquarters for further processing.

03/16/2017- Shamyah Manigo age 31 of East Orange NJ was arrested at 8:00am for several traffic warrants. Ms. Manigo was also operating a vehicle with a suspended driver license. The vehicle was impounded by police and Ms. Manigo was transported to police headquarters. She was additionally issued a summons for prohibited turn. Ms. Manigo was ROR after being issued a new court date for the warrants.

Theft

03/20/2017-Lourdes Nazario age 38 of Newark was arrested at 5:44pm and charged with shoplifting at the Walgreens Store on Belleville Avenue. The suspect tried to leave the store without paying for three bags of Tide detergent. The arrestee also had three outstanding warrants from Nutley, Bloomfield, and Atlantic City.

03/22/207 -David Bambrick Jr age 33 of Belleville was arrested at 10:57am for shoplifting at the Stop & Shop Store. The suspect stole a case of Red Bull drinks and was captured by police a short distance away after a brief foot pursuit. The arrestee was charged with the theft and also had additional warrants from Newark, Bloomfield, and Clifton. The arrestee was transported to the Essex County jail.

03/23/2017- A resident of Dodd Street reported that their unlocked vehicle was entered and property was stolen. The property included a portable DVD player, DVD’s, and a knife.

03/24/2017 -Jewel Soto age 26 of Bloomfield was arrested at 11:54am for theft of movable property and receiving stolen property. A neighbor on Gregory Terrace notified the police that a suspicious woman was in the rear yard of her neighbor’s house. The complainant also stated that the woman had asked her minutes earlier if she had a dog that she could walk for her. Communications dispatched the females’ description and the car she was driving. Minutes later the female was stopped in Nutley several blocks away. Upon interviewing her, detectives observed stolen mail on the front seat of her vehicle. During the investigation, several packages were found in the arrestee’s vehicle which had also been stolen from Gregory terrace.

03/25/2017- The owner of a business located at 1099 Broad Street reported that a laptop computer and wallet were stolen from a dining room chair between the hours of 9:00pm and 1:00am.

03/25/2017- Nancy Harrison age 60 of Newark was arrested at 12:31pm for shoplifting while at Jacks Super Foodtown. The arrestee attempted to leave the store with 9 bottles of various aspirin. The arrestee also had an additional warrant from the Essex County Sherriff’s Department.

03/25/2017- A resident of New Street reported that an unknown person entered their unlocked vehicle and stole a tan wallet.

03/25/2017- A resident of Spring Street reported that an unknown suspect entered their unlocked vehicle and stole electronic equipment and a knife.

03/25/2017- A resident of Sadler Road reported that an unknown suspect entered their unlocked vehicle and stole a wallet and a Kodak digital camera.

03/25/2017 -Orlando Christmas age 53 of Newark was arrested at 2:54pm for shoplifting at the Rite Aid. The suspect fled the store without paying for several bottles of shampoo. Arrestee was charged with shoplifting and released on a summons.

03/26/2017 -Orlando Christmas age 53 of Newark was arrested at 7:47am for shoplifting at the Stop & Shop. The arrestee stole 4 bags of shrimp, Oreo cookies, and a bag of cups. The arrestee was charged with shoplifting and released on a summons.

03/26/2017-Mayra Rios age 35 of Newark was arrested at 4:25pm while at the Stop & Shop Store. The arrestee attempted to leave the store without paying for $174.99 worth of health and beauty items. The arrestee was charged and released on a summons.

Burglary

03/21/2017- Jason Henriques age 23 of Newark was arrested by the Detective Bureau at 11:00 am in front of his Newark residence. After a lengthy investigation, arrestee was charged with the burglary that occurred on 3/8/2017 at the Subway sandwich shop located at 121 Bloomfield Ave.

03/21/2017- A resident of Broad Street reported that at 10:08pm, a male suspect had entered his home through an unlocked front door. The caller stated that he hit the suspect with a dining room chair; breaking it on the suspect. He further stated that the suspect fled onto Broad Street and left the area. After investigation of this incident, the alleged victim was charged with the fourth degree crime of “reporting to law enforcement authorities an offense knowing that it did not occur”.

03/25/2017- A homeowner on Park Avenue reported that between the hours of 5:30pm and 9:00pm, an unknown suspect forced open a front door and stole a laptop computer, a cell phone, and Bose earbuds.

03/25/2017- A homeowner on Ampere parkway reported that between the hours of 5:30pm and 11:00pm, an unknown suspect entered the home through a rear window and stole a laptop computer, an IPad, and jewelry.

Prostitution

03/21/2017- Li Guishun age 61 of Fairview was arrested by Bloomfield Police Anti-Crime unit during an undercover operation at 10:45am at 599 Bloomfield Ave. Bloomfield Health Spa. Ms. Li Guishum was charged with solicitation of prostitution and transported to Bloomfield Police HQ for processing.

Weapon Offense

03/24/2017- Brett Hudson age 34 of Biloxi Mississippi was arrested at 7:55 pm for unlawful possession of a firearm. Mr. Brett Hudson was pulled over during a motor vehicle violation on Bloomfield Ave and JFK Dr. After further investigation by Officer’s, Mr. Hudson was found to be in possession of a Glock 40 caliber handgun, hollow point bullets and a shotgun.

Misc.

03/20/2017- Anfernee Neverson age 21 of Bloomfield was arrested at 8:03 pm for resisting arrest. After a dispute with another person at 630 Bloomfield Ave (7-11) police arrived on scene of the disturbance and Mr. Neverson refused to exit the vehicle when requested to do so by the police. Mr. Neverson was charged with Obstruction, Resisting arrest and Defiant trespassing.

Warrant Arrest

03/20/2017- Jerome Brown age 52 of Newark was arrested for multiple outstanding warrants from the Bloomfield Police. Jerome Brown had been charged with multiple package thefts throughout the south-end of the Township.

03/20/2017- Tyese Beauharnais age 23 of Carlstadt was arrested for multiple warrants from Carlstadt and Fort Lee. Patrol officers were alerted via infocop that registered owner to that vehicle had active warrants from different jurisdictions. Bail was posted by Tyese Beauharnais.

03/20/2017- Ka’shiya Ward age 19 of Bloomfield was arrested at 293 Bloomfield Ave, United Check Cashing, for attempting to cash a fraudulent check.

03/22/2017- Daryn Zellers age 45 of Irvington was stopped by the Home Depot loss prevention manager. Mr. Zellers is not allowed on their property. Mr. Zellers had outstanding warrants from East Orange and also Fairfield.

03/23/2017- Sharolyn Douglass age 37 of Newark was picked up from East Orange Police Department on an active Bloomfield ATS warrant. Mrs. Douglass also had an outstanding warrant from Maplewood PD.

03/25/2017- Robert McCaskill age 51 of Newark was picked up from East Orange PD and transported to Bloomfield PD on an active warrant. Mr. McCaskill was placed into cell awaiting transportation to the County Jail.

03/25/2017- Carlos Polanco-Mercedes age 22 of Newark was stopped by the Anti-Crime unit for having fictitious plates attached to his vehicle. Mr. Polanco-Mercedes had an outstanding Bloomfield and Newark warrant. Bail was posted by Mr. Polanco-Mercedes for Bloomfield and a new court date was given for Newark PD.

03/27/2017- John Bimbo age 41 of Nutley was picked up by patrol from Nutley police headquarters on an outstanding arrest warrant from Bloomfield. Mr. Bimbo was subsequently released after appearing before the Judge.

03/27/2017- Michael Jensen age 26 of Livingston was transported to the Bloomfield Police Headquarters by Nutley PD on an outstanding warrant. Mr. Jensen was processed and given a new court date to appear.

CDS

03/21/2017- Adam Harvey age 22 of Paterson was arrested and charged with possession of CDS under 50g of marijuana. Mr. Harvey was inside of his parked vehicle in Upper Memorial Park after dark. Patrol officers checked on this vehicle and when approached by Officers they smelt the odor of burning marijuana emanating from his vehicle. Mr. Harvey was found to be in possession of a small baggie with green leafy vegetation believed to be marijuana.

03/26/2017- Nyle Hardy age 22 of East Orange was arrested and charged with possession of CDS under 50 g of marijuana. Mr. Hardy was observed sitting inside of his vehicle on Floyd Ave by patrol officers. Mr. Hardy was found to be in possession of a marijuana cigarette and three glass bowls commonly used to smoke marijuana.

03/27/2017- James Froelich age 38 of Bloomfield was arrested and charged with possession of a hypodermic needle and drug paraphernalia. Mr. Froelich was stopped by patrol units in the area Baldwin St and East Passaic Ave after a call was received from Baldwin St. of a man looking into windows. Mr. Froelich had in his possession several needles along with several clear glassine baggies with different color stampings on them..

DUI

03/20/2017- Luis Cuautle-Cuateco age 44 of Kearney was arrested at 11:22 pm and charged with DUI. Police observed Mr. Cuautle-Cuateco’s vehicle traveling south on Orange St then make a sudden turn at a high rate of speed onto Watsessing Ave. Officers effected a motor vehicle stop of Mr. Cuautle-Cuateco car at Westinghouse Plaza. While speaking to Mr.Cuautle-Cuateco officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. After several Field Sobriety Tests it was determined that Mr Cuautle-Cuateco was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was transported to police headquarters and additionally issued summons for Failure to yield, Careless driving and driving without a license.

03/26/2017- Demario Joseph age 25 of West Orange was arrested at 02:04 am and charged with DUI. Police observed Mr. Demario Joseph’s vehicle cross over the center line several times in violation. Upon conducting a motor vehicle stop officers immediately detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from Mr. Joseph’s breath. Mr. Joseph was arrested for multiple outstanding warrants at the time. At police HQ Mr. Joseph was administered a HGN test which confirmed patrols observations. Mr. Joseph was additionally issued a summons for refusal and traffic on marked lanes.

03-29-2017 (Chase Bank, Bloomfield Avenue) Mr. Jair Sewell, 20yoa from East Orange and a 17yoa juvenile female were arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen property and Fraud charges after attempting to open a fraudulent bank account with stolen documents.

04-01-2017 (Elmwood Avenue) Mr. Todd Dorcelus, 31yoa from Newark, was arrested on an open warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.

03-29-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) Mr. Larry McNeil, 74yoa from West Orange, was arrested and charged with DWI.

03-30-2017 (Bay Street) Mr. Zahir Muhammad, 19yoa from Montclair, was arrested and charged with Defiant Trespass after breaking into a vacant residence.

04-03-2017 (Saint Luke’s Church, South Fullerton) Mr. Omar Williams, 38yoa from East Orange was arrested on multiple open warrants resulting from theft investigations in Montclair. On 04-03-2017, he was discovered inside the basement of St. Lukes Church and subsequently charged with Defiant Trespass and Possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was also arrested on an open warrant for his involvement in the theft of a tip jar from Studio Groomers on North Fullerton Avenue, reported on 03/30/2017. Williams was also arrested on an open warrant for his involvement in the theft of a laptop from the Salvation Army, Trinity Place, reported on 03-23-2017.

Burglary/Theft:

03-29-2017 (South Mountain Avenue) Burglary to a single family residence. Three laptop computers were taken from the first floor of the home. There were no signs of forced entry.

03-30-2017 (Forest Street) Theft of a red 2008 Volvo XC70 Station Wagon, which had been parked in the street.

03-30-2017 (Palace Car Wash, Bloomfield Avenue) Burglary to a commercial establishment. Cash was taken in this incident. There were no signs of forced entry.

04-03-2017 (Wayside Place) Attempted burglary to a residence. An attempt was made to enter the rear door of the home. Access was not gained in this incident.

04-03-2017 (St. James Episcopal Church, Valley Road) Burglary to the basement office space of the church. A laptop and cash were taken.

04-03-2017 (Nishuane Road) A suspect attempted to enter two vehicles which were parked in a residential driveway. Entry was not gained in this incident.

Miscellaneous:

04-01-2017 (Clinton Avenue) A 17yoa female was walking on Clinton Avenue when she observed a newer model bright red 2-door sports car pull up to the curb. The driver, described as a Black male approximately 25-30 years old, 6’00-6’02 in height, 180lbs athletic build, with short black hair, clean shaven, wearing an all red track suit, exited the vehicle. He then opened the passenger side door of the vehicle and began adjusting the passenger side seat. As the female approached, he asked her if he could speak with her. The female replied that he could not, and continued walking. The male continued speaking to her as she walked away. He then entered his vehicle and left the area.

03/27/2017- The owner of a 2014 Toyota SUV reported the headlights from his vehicle were stolen while parked on Linden Avenue. The theft is believed to have occurred overnight.

03/27/2017- Donovan Tharp age 32 of Nutley was arrested at 5:35pm and charged with Shoplifting. Police were dispatched to the Super Fresh Food Market on a shoplifter inside the store. Mr. Tharp attempted to exit the store with several boxes of toothpaste. He was issued a summons and released with a pending court date.

03/28/2017- The registered owner of a 2015 BMW X5 reported that unknown person(s) entered her parked vehicle and stole a wallet and loose change. The vehicle doors were unlocked. The theft occurred overnight on Carol Place.

03/28/2017- A package was stolen from a residence on Memorial Parkway. The package was confirmed delivered on Saturday by FedEx. The package is valued at $35.00 dollars.

03/29/2017- A cell phone was reported stolen from the Bloomfield Public Library. The owner left his IPhone 5 with a backup battery charging on a shelf inside the library. The owner returned from the bathroom to retrieve his phone and discovered it missing. Police are actively investigating incident.

03/29/2017-Desiree Writt age 35 Of Newark NJ was arrested at 5:00pm and charged with Shoplifting. Police were dispatched to the CVS Store located at 331 Broad Street on a shoplifter who left the store. Officers located the suspect identified as Ms. Writt on the corner of Broad Street and Pitt Street. Ms. Writt was in possession of the stolen merchandise and was also found to have an active Newark warrant in the amount of $3,000.00 dollars. Ms. Writ was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility on the active warrant.

03/29/2017- A Mongoose bicycle valued at $150.00 dollars was reported stolen from a garage on East Passaic Avenue. The bicycle was last seen two weeks ago inside the unlocked garage.

03/29/2017- William Clark age 46 of Newark was arrested at 7:21pm after officers were dispatched to the Dollar Tree Store located at 135 Bloomfield Avenue. Mr. Clark exited the store with a shopping cart filled with unpaid merchandise. Officers located Mr. Clark in the area of Grove Street and Bloomfield Avenue. The store merchandise valued at $99.00 dollars was recovered and returned to the store. Mr. Clark was also found to have several active warrants. He was detained and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

Burglary

03/29/2017- A local business on the 1200 block of Broad Street was burglarized overnight. The owner discovered the front door unlocked and money missing from behind the counter. Police are reviewing store security cameras and actively investigating incident.

Criminal Mischief

03/27/2017- A 1998 BMW 528 parked on Farmingdale Avenue was reportedly damaged overnight. The vehicle owner discovered damage to the trunk. No items reported missing from the vehicle.

Warrant Arrest

03/28/2017- Matilde Larios age 57 of Belleville was arrested at 11:28am for an active warrant issued by Little Ferry. PO Joseph Cevallos initiated a motor vehicle stop on a Toyota SUV for a speeding violation on West Passaic Avenue. The driver Ms. Larios was found to have the active warrant. She was later released after posting bail for the warrant.

03/30/2017- David Munjee age 39 of East Orange NJ was arrested at 9:34am for active Bloomfield Warrants. Officers observed Mr. Munjee in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Grove Street. A record check confirmed the 7 active Bloomfield warrants. He was transported to police headquarters and held awaiting commitment to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

Motor Vehicle Theft

04/01/2017- A 1994 Honda Civic was reported stolen from Myrtle Street. The vehicle was parked overnight and discovered missing the next morning. The vehicle owner additionally reported the vehicle contained several power tools valued at $300.00 dollars.

CDS

03/27/2017- James Froelich age 38 of Bloomfield was arrested at 1:06am and charged with Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe. PO Timothy Kealy and PO Rueben Rivera were patrolling the area of Baldwin Street, when they were alerted by a homeowner of a suspicious person. The person was located by the officers, who provided a false name due to having several active warrants. Mr. Froelich was found to have warrants issued by the Essex County Sheriff Department, Bloomfield and Newark. He was also found to be in possession of 5 hypodermic needles and 18 empty glassine envelopes used to package heroin. He was additionally charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Mr. Froelich was held on the active warrants and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

Burglary/Theft:

04-05-2017 (South Mountain Avenue) Burglary to a residence through an unlocked rear door. A purse was taken from dining room table. The purse contained a wallet and credit cards.

04-05-2017 (Lexington Avenue) Theft of a bicycle from the rear yard of a residence.

04-06-2017 (Stephen Street) Theft from an unlocked motor vehicle. A diamond ring was taken in this incident.

04-07-2017 (Forest Street) A 35yoa Lodi man was standing on Forest Street when approached by a male requesting to use his cellular telephone. The male then took the cellular telephone and fled on foot. The victim pursued and caught the suspect, resulting in a physical altercation. A second male suspect attempted to intervene in the altercation. The first suspect dropped the victim’s phone and both men fled the area in a silver Volkswagen Jetta bearing a NJ license plate, driven by a black female with shoulder length hair. The initial suspect is described as a tall black male in his 20’s, with short brown hair, wearing a black shirt and red track pants. The second suspect is described as a younger black male. The victim was struck in the face during this incident and received treatment from responding medical personnel.

04-07-2017 (Laurel Place) During the early evening, a resident heard their front door opening. The resident called out to the person entering, and then observed someone fleeing the home across their front lawn. They could only describe the suspect as possibly being white. The suspect fled in a dark colored vehicle east towards Upper Mountain Avenue.

04-08-2017 (Irving Street) Theft from a motor vehicle. A Karate uniform and equipment were taken in this incident. These items were later located abandoned on Lincoln Street.

04-04-2017 (Church Street) Graffiti was discovered written on the newly installed Big Belly garbage can at that location.

Bloomfield Police Looking For Third Suspect in Robbery at Wendy’s

Bloomfield Police have arrested Ahmari Gilmore, 21, and Bobby Reed, 23, both of Newark, on charges of robbery and conspiracy, but they continue to look for a third suspect, shown in this photo taken by a witness.

Police were dispatched at 4:13pm on April 17 on a reported robbery occurring in the parking lot of Wendy’s located on Bloomfield Avenue. Witnesses observed 3 males attack the victim. The victim was punched and kicked while on the ground. The victim a 41 year old male was robbed of his Nike sneakers valued at $500.00 dollars. Several witnesses were able to provide descriptions of the suspects. Officers responding located two suspects walking in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Watsessing Avenue. The two males were found to be in possession of one of the victim’s sneaker and a hat.

The third suspect (pictured) is still at large. The 41 year old male victim sustained cuts and facial bruising as a result of the attack. A witness was able to capture a picture of the third suspect running from the scene. Police are actively attempting to identify and locate the third suspect. 04-13-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) Mr. Kim Chung, 29yoa from Clifton was arrested and charged with DWI following a motor vehicle accident. There were no reported injuries.

04-14-2017 (Pine Street) Officers were called to a disturbance in the street. Ms. Fatimah Leftwich, 36yoa from Montclair, was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. Ms. Leftwich punched an officer in the face and tore their uniform during her arrest. Mr. Lander Ceaser, 35yoa from Montclair, was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

Montclair Police Remind Residents to Take Precautions to Prevent Burglaries

On 04-25-2017 at approximately midnight, there was a burglary attempt to a residence on the northern end of South Mountain Avenue. The suspect was described as wearing a black shirt with white on the back. This suspect checked the door handle on the rear entrance to the residence. Entry was not gained to the home. The suspect then fled the property on foot.

The Montclair Police Department reminds all residents to lock the doors and windows to their homes and vehicles, particularly during the overnight hours. They are also advised not to leave any valuables, such as pocketbooks or portable electronics, in view. If any resident hears or sees anything unusual, they are urged to call the Police Department immediately.

04-26-2017 (Elm Street) Burglary to a residence currently under construction. Multiple power tools were taken. There was no sign of forced entry.

04-25-2017 (Cloverhill Place) Theft of three delivered packages from outside a private residence.

04-28-2017 (Valley Road) A Verona resident, walking across the Quick Chek parking lot, had his cellular telephone stolen. The suspect, described as an African-American female wearing a yellow shirt, rode past on a bicycle and snatched the phone from his hand.

04-28-2017 (Orange Road) Possible thefts from motor vehicles. The suspect is described as an African-American male, clean shaven, in a black short sleeve shirt. It is unknown what was taken in this incident. This suspect was observed rummaging through two vehicles in the area.

04-29-2017 (Walnut Street) Theft of a bicycle, which had been locked to a telephone pole.

04-30-2017 (Elm Street) Theft of a bicycle, which had been left locked to a No parking Sign.

Fraud

04-25-2017 (Glenridge Avenue) A business owner received a telephone call from a party claiming to represent PSE&G. They advised the victim that their power would be shut off if they did not pay $898 immediately. The victim was instructed to purchase Green Dot Moneypak cards in that amount and provide the caller with the redemption information. The victim followed these instructions and then realized that this was a scam.

04-26-2017 (Cloverhill Place) A resident received a telephone call from a male who claimed to represent United States Customs. The suspect stated that he had a check for the victim, but would require that $950 be wired to Costa Rica in order for the check to be released from customs. The victim realized that this was a scam and contacted Montclair Police prior to sending any money.

Residents are reminded that utility companies and government agencies will never contact you via telephone requesting funds be transferred via Moneypak/Prepaid Debit Cards or Moneygram/Western Union. In most instances, the caller will insist that victims remain on the telephone to complete the transaction, preventing them from seeking assistance or advice from others. If contacted in this manner, please hang up and notify the Police Department.

Miscellaneous

04-30-2017 (Franklin Avenue) Officers responded on a report of an unresponsive 21yoa female. Naloxone was administered, as this condition was found to be the result of an opioid overdose. The officers were successful in reviving the patient.

05-21-2017 (Valley Road) Mr. Robert Ward, 45yoa from Montclair, was arrested and charged with DWI.

05-16-2017 (Walnut Street Train Station) Theft of the rear wheel of a bicycle, chained to the bike rack.

05-17-2017 (Highland Avenue)Theft of a 2016 Grey Dodge Ram 1500 Super Cab work truck. This vehicle had been left running.

05-17-2017 (South Moon Under, Park Street) Shoplifting of two clothing items. The suspect is described as a white female, 40-45yoa with dark red hair.

05-17-2017 (Edgewood Terrace) A visitor at a residence encountered a strange male on the second floor of the home. The male claimed to be from a car service. When questioned the male fled the home on foot, to the area of Upper Mountain Avenue. This suspect was described as an African-American male in his mid twenties, approximately 5’10 in height, with a lean build and dread locks, wearing a white tee shirt and a baseball cap.

05-20-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) Theft of a delivered package from the common area of an apartment building.

Miscellaneous

On 05-17-2017 at approximately 1856hrs, we responded to a report of a tree on multiple vehicles in the area of 215 Bellevue Avenue. MFD was already on scene removing a 63yoa Montclair woman from her damaged vehicle. She had complaint of head, neck and shoulder pain. Montclair Ambulance responded and transported this injured party to the hospital. Her vehicle sustained heavy damage, including a caved in roof and hood, shattered windshield, and all tires were deflated.
Four other unoccupied vehicles were also struck by this tree. One sustained heavy damage, having a wheel snapped off its axle. The other three were dented and scraped. Tinga Restaurant was also struck by this tree, damaging its awning and front exterior tables and chairs. All of the lighting on top of that building was also damaged.

05-18-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) While on patrol, an officer observed a male in distress on the sidewalk. It was discovered that this 42yoa male was suffering from an apparent opioid overdose. Officers administered Naloxone and were successful in reviving the male. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

05-27-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) Officers responded to a report of a verbal argument. Mr. Michel Asheley, 32yoa from Bound Brook was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. No injuries were reported.

05-28-2017 (Elm Street) Mr. Quadir Turner, 37yoa from Orange, was arrested and charged with DWI.

05-28-2017 (Elm Street) Mr. Dahens Lucien, 31yoa from Sayreville, was arrested and charged with DWI.

05-28-2017 (Canterbury Park) Ms. Tamika Tims, 33yoa from Lakewood, was arrested on open warrants out of Westampton, Wall, and Jackson totaling $3,769.

05-23-2017 A vehicle reported stolen from Forest Street on 05-14-2017 was located parked and unoccupied in the City of Newark.

05-24-2017 (Union Street) Theft of a bicycle, which the owner had left chained to a tree.

05-24-2017 (Christopher Street) Theft of a delivered package from the front of a residence. The package contained clothing items.

05-26-2017 (North Willow Street) Burglary to a residence. A bicycle was taken from the main entrance hallway. A window was broken on a front door in order to gain access.

05-27-2017 (Maple Avenue) Theft from a motor vehicle. A pair of sunglasses was taken. No sign of forced entry.

05-28-2017 (Orange Road) A parked motor vehicle was rummaged through, but it does not appear that anything was taken.

05-28-2017 (Van Breeman Court) Burglary to a residence. Access was gained through a basement window. Cash and jewelry were taken in this incident.

Miscellaneous

05-23-2017 (Upper Montclair Plz) A parked vehicle had its rear window smashed. Nothing was reported missing in this incident.

06-08-2017 (Pine Street) Theft of a leaf-blower from the rear lot of an apartment complex.

06-08-2017 (Whole Foods, Bloomfield Avenue) Theft of a wallet from an unattended shopping cart. The wallet contained credit cards and cash.

06-10-2017 (High Street) Theft of two bicycles and a lawnmower from an unlocked garage.

06-10-2017 (Bloomfield Avenue) Theft of a 2005 tan Jeep Grand Cherokee which the owner had left parked in the street.

06-11-2017 (Washington Avenue) Theft of a 2009 black Nissan Murano which the owner had left parked in their driveway.

06-15-2017 (Glenridge Avenue) Mr. Anthony Farrow, 21yoa from Fairfield, was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct after causing a disturbance in the street.

06-14-2017 (Elm Street) Theft of a 2016 Chevy Malibu from the rear parking lot of an apartment complex. This vehicle was later recovered in Paterson.

06-15-2017 (Park Street) Theft from a motor vehicle. There was no sign of forced entry. A laptop was taken in this incident.

06-15-2017 (Highland Avenue) Theft of two vehicles from a residential driveway. A 2012 Land Rover Evo and a 2017 Land Rover Discovery were taken in this incident. The Land Rover Discovery was located and recovered by Montclair Detectives in the City of Newark.

06-16-2017 (Warren Place) Attempted burglary to a residence. Window screens were damaged during this attempt. Access was not gained to the home.

06-17-2017 (Park Street) Theft of an unlocked bicycle from the YMCA bike rack.

06-17-2017 (Melrose Place) Officers responded to a report of an attempted theft of a motor vehicle from a driveway. The suspect, described as an African-American male, approximately 6’2” in height, with long hair and wearing a mask, fled the area in a silver Mercedes Benz SUV.

06-18-2017 (Myrtle Avenue) Burglary to a residence. Entry was gained through a basement window. Cash was taken in this incident.
